My name is Jamie Calvert, I'm 26 years old and living in rural Suffolk.
I'm a self-taught textile artist and free-motion machine embroiderer.
I take my inspiration from rural living and the Suffolk countryside. Creating original handcrafted homewares and wearable pieces of art including clothing, scarfs and shawls. Each item I create will normally include a original piece of embroidery. From the hedgerows to the fields and barns I take inspiration from the ever-changing local landscape.
All my work is as environmentally friendly as possible using biodegradable embroidery threads and natural fabrics.
I've always been creative from a young age and loved to draw and sew, it wasn't until later in my teens that I found out about free-motion machine embroidery.
Free-motion machine embroidery or freehand embroidery is like painting with threads, using your regular sewing machine to draw your designs onto fabric and then creating them into beautiful one-off homewares and fashion. Incorporating both my love of art and textiles into one art form.
It's really special being able to sell everything as a complete original (you won't find limited edition numbers in my work!) and to be able to wear a original piece of art too!
Each piece of embroidery takes many hours of work building up colours and creating realistic detailing.

Alongside my textiles I do sometimes create art from other mediums like silver clay jewellery and I will selling homegrown bouquets of flowers from my studio at Wakelyns farm this summer. Starting up alongside my textiles my florestry work. More details will follow in the weeks to come as things progress.
Work
I would describe my work vibe as raw, rustic and detailed.
Raw as I love using natural materials with texture which can give a piece age and mood.
Rustic as I love using natural fabrics and keeping my work colours very neutral gives my homewares a rustic natural style that suits old country cottages to modern day home styling.
Detailed in the intricate embroidered details from hedgerow flora and fauna to whiskers on a hares face.
